Water – an efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly solution for fire prevention
Water is an excellent extinguishing agent: it is affordable, non-toxic, and highly effective at absorbing heat. It is also usually easy to access. Thanks to these properties, water is the best choice for preventive fire protection, especially when the goal is to minimize risks to people, the environment, and property.
Smart prevention with the FreshWind high-pressure mist system
The FreshWind high-pressure mist system can be programmed to automatically respond to rising temperatures. When the system detects that the temperature exceeds a pre-set limit, it activates and gradually increases the amount of mist. This lowers the air temperature and can even prevent a fire from igniting altogether. At the same time, it reduces the need for heavy firefighting systems and the potential damage they might cause. With water mist, fire can be controlled using significantly less water, reducing the risk and cost of water damage.
A complementary partner for suppression systems
The FreshWind water mist system does not replace official extinguishing equipment, but it works excellently as a preventive addition. It helps stop situations from escalating into active firefighting and reduces the risk of fire and its consequences. The system is particularly useful in sites where fire safety needs to be enhanced without major structural or operational changes.
“The extinguishing mechanism of water is mainly based on its cooling effect – its ability to absorb heat when evaporating – and on reducing the oxygen concentration in the fire space. In addition, small droplets in the air reduce radiant heat transfer by scattering and absorbing radiation between the flame and the combustible material. This prevents ignition and can slow down the burning of already ignited surfaces.” — VTT / Maarit Tuomisaari: Water Mist System in Firefighting Technology, 1996
